Network-boot computers through James, match their pairing codes, and review the installation disks before you approve. Set up a whole group in one deployment session.

Describe the perfect setup once

Choose the desktop, App Lists and Policy in a versioned Blueprint. Or import a reference computer and review what Cybex can carry over before you save.
03 — ROLL OUT

Review first. Roll out with confidence.

See which computers will change and what they need. Approve the plan, test on one computer, then approve the next wave. Restore a previous Blueprint when needed.

Meet James.
Your fleet’s right-hand man.

Every team could use a James: someone who takes care of the groundwork. Cybex James is your local server for network boot, preparing installations and delivering software to the computers in your building.

Download your James ISO from the Console, boot your server, and confirm the installation disk. James then enrolls, prepares its services and keeps itself maintained. The Console shows what is ready and when you need to step in.

THE GROUNDWORK, TAKEN CARE OF

Software delivered locally

James prepares and caches software on your network, so computers can share local downloads instead of fetching the same files over your internet connection.

Network boot, with your approval

On the same wired network, James supplies boot information alongside your existing DHCP server. Review the computers and disks before installation starts.

A helper that looks after itself

James maintains its services and reports their health. Verified local files remain available where possible; new deployments and approvals need a connection to Cybex.

05 — ABOUT CYBEX

Years of experience. A new chapter for Linux.

Cybex builds on many years of experience in device management. Our founder, John, previously founded ZuluDesk, an Apple Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform that was later acquired. Alongside that background, we bring years of hands-on experience with Linux systems, on-device content filtering and network management.

We’re bringing that experience together in Cybex: helping schools, public sector teams and businesses make Linux desktops a practical, dependable choice. From the computer itself to the network around it, we understand what it takes to keep an organisation’s technology working.

Fair questions, straight answers.

Is moving to Linux disruptive for our users?

It doesn't have to be. Pilot one group, confirm it works, then expand — and roll back if you must. IT keeps control at every step.

Where is Cybex hosted?

The Cybex management service is hosted in the Netherlands. Cybex manages the hosting and maintenance, with device configurations and audit trails available through the Console.

What does James add?

James handles network installation and local software preparation and delivery. The current guided network-installation flow uses James. Already installed computers can also be adopted without reinstalling.

Which computers can we deploy?

Cybex manages NixOS desktops. The current network installer supports x86-64 UEFI computers connected by Ethernet, with workstation Secure Boot disabled. The separate James appliance installer uses Secure Boot enabled. Read the installation guide ↗

What happens if James goes offline?

Computers keep running their installed setup. Local installs and software delivery wait for James to return. The Console shows the issue and recognizes James when it reconnects.

Can people use their existing work accounts?

Cybex supports Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace sign-in sources. Connect your provider in Settings, then use a Policy to choose how people sign in to managed desktops.
